The Riyadh Car Show Auction 2019 - 22nd November 2019

The Riyadh Car Show Auction 2019 62 Friday 22nd November 2019 Chassis Number: JRX32101 Offered without reserve Rolls-Royce’s flagship from the Seventies with only 13,600km. • An incredibly low mileage Camargue, at 9,000km • Left-hand drive, and delivered new to Saudi Arabia where it remains • In factory specification and finished in triple black • Opinion dividing when new, the day of the Camargue is finally here Launched in 1975, the Camargue was the flagship of the Rolls-Royce range. With bodywork by Paulo Martin of Pininfarina and built by Mulliner Park Ward, it was the first post-war production Rolls-Royce not designed in-house and was Britain’s most expensive production car at launch, selling for £29,250. The car made use of many mechanical components from other Rolls-Royce models and the mildly uprated 6750cc engine was from the Silver Shadow as was the three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. More precise rack-and-pinion steering was adopted from 1977 and an advanced split-level climate control system installed. The result was a powerful and comfortable two- door saloon with lots of space and a phenomenal road presence. Twice the price of a Silver Shadow and half as much again as a Corniche, the Camargue remained in production until 1986 during which time just 531 examples were built, the razor-edge styling dividing opinion like no Rolls-Royce before or since. Nowadays though, this extreme rarity has made the Camargue highly collectable and the majestic angularity of the coachwork is increasingly appreciated for its sculptural qualities, so evocative of the haute couture of its period. Dating from 1979, this left-hand-drive car was supplied new to the KSA where it still resides to this day. It remains completely in its original factory specification and although the combination of a Masons Black exterior and a black leather interior was unusual at the time, it now looks seriously cool. Having covered a mere 9,000km from new, this is surely one of the lowest mileage examples on the market and combined with it being one of the rarest, and most controversial Rolls-Royce models ever, the Camargue is undoubtedly a future collectable. 1979 Rolls-Royce Camargue LOT 128 More Images Lot 128 Bid On Lot 128
