Supercar Fest Sale of Iconic & Classic Cars 28 May 2022

109 + buyers premium of 12.5% plus VAT (15% incl VAT) on the first £300,000 of the hammer and 10% plus VAT (12% incl VAT) thereafter Lot 473 2005 GT40 (CAV) Cape Advanced Vehicles (CAV) are widely respected globally for producing high-quality GT40 recreations. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, the company has been manufacturing GT40 recreations continuously for 30 years using a unique stainless steel chassis and their cars are almost impossible to source here in the UK. Offered here is a GT40 recreation manufactured in 2005 by CAV and finished in Le Mans Blue with classic white GT40 racing Stripes. The engine is a new crated small-block FORD V8 302 with an Aluminium head, performance inlet manifold and Holley twin-barrel 650cfm carburettor generating a power output of over 400 bhp and featuring a classic ‘bundle of snakes’ exhaust system under a glass screen in the rear bodywork. A 5-speed Audi Turbo gearbox finishes the drivetrain which is the recognised as the stock choice for high-quality GT40 builds. A fully independent rose-jointed adjustable suspension set up with Wilwood brakes and original look 15-inch GT40 knock off alloys wearing BF Goodrich Radial tyres provides traction, handling and stopping power. The cabin space is full leather with dashboard and original look leather eyelet seats. The seating position is currently set up to accommodate a driver up to 6’3” but can be modified to suit and netted door pockets provide useful storage space. All the period-style matching Smiths gauges are present with a digital speedo, 3-spoke leather steering wheel with a ‘Ford Racing’ centre, and a laser-cut engraved signature of Jacky Ickx, 5 times Le Mans winner, on the dash. Air conditioning and a heater are fitted and the 4-point racing harnesses/seatbelts are by Sparco. This car has had one South African owner from new and was imported and used by its UK GT40 enthusiast owner since 2019 with limited use and always dry stored correctly. This car appeared at the 2019 50-year GT40 Anniversary at the famous Spa circuit in Belgium. https://youtu.be/qaQvRF7-op8 It’s accompanied by a history file with the current V5C (note - the private number showing in our images will not form part of the sale, a new V5C with age related number will follow) and the current MOT is valid until May 2023. GT40 recreations of this quality rarely come to market and this CAV GT40 is a very usable car for the road or track- day use if so desired. A new CAV in this specification would be in excess of £150,000 and you would have the pleasure of trying to get it through the IVA test. This limited mileage car is correctly registered and looks excellent value at the guide price listed here.
