The Classic Sale at Silverstone 26th & 27th August 2022

218 The Classic Sale at Silverstone - Cars Registration: GYU 577C Chassis No.: BA74EG59563 Estimate: £60,000 - £70,000 Lot 500 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1 FIA This particular race Cortina is a well-known car and has been with its current owner, DM Historics, since 2018. Steeped in history, GYU 577C was built in August 1965 by the Dagenham Lotus factory before being exported to Australia and spending several years seeing regular use over there from 1966. Continuing to live a well-travelled life, the racer made its way to Japan, Miami, Sweden and arrived in Holland in 1995, where it would commence its official rally career as a regular entrant in the Tulpenrallye. First held in 1949, the Tulpenrallye (Tulip Rally) is one of the oldest Dutch rallies, now in its 66th year, and entrants must strictly be pre-1971 vehicles. Though organised in the Netherlands, 2,500 kilometres of the competition is run outside the country touring through France and Belgium. Documentation with the car notes that in 1984 it was fitted with aluminium doors, bonnet and boot lid as part of its rally preparation. Its first FIA Historic Vehicle Passport was awarded in September 1990 and the history file contains countless FIA photographs from the period. Classically finished in the traditional factory Ermine White and Sherwood Green, 577C retains its original Lotus Cortina bodyshell as confirmed by the Lotus Cortina Register. With years of recorded track use, the body and paintwork have inevitably acquired the patina of competition, however, the Cortina displays no major signs of rusting and the bodywork is in a very presentable condition. During its race preparation process with DM Historics, the car has been finished to a high standard, meeting FIA requirements every step of the way. The spec includes a full FIA-approved engine rebuild, fully rebuilt straight-cut, close-ratio gearbox, welded-in Custom Cages 6-point roll cage, ATL fuel cell and a bespoke wiring loom throughout. The interior is naturally competition-spec with a Cobra Evolution racing seat, 4-point Sabelt racing harness and period Moto-Lita steering wheel. In typical lightweight racing practice, the second seat has been removed and replaced with a fully functioning FireSense extinguisher in the footwell. As is the case with any competition car, we would recommend that interested purchasers check the currency and validity of any safety equipment fitted to the car. Last raced at the Masters Historic Festival in August 2020, this original, right-hand drive, Mk1 is complete with current FIA HTP papers valid until 2030 and is supplied with a fresh FIA engine from Craig Beck Racing built in September 2020 and a recommissioned gearbox by Racing Transmissions in September 2020. Eligible for Masters, Motor Racing Legends, CSCC and HRDC, GYU 577C has been described as ready for its next owner to enjoy and is offered at a very competitive estimate considering it would cost an awful lot more to replicate this car today. The subject of significant recent expenditure, this is a fast well-prepared car with a current FIA - HTP (Sept 2030) on offer at a very competitive estimate. More Details Lot 500 Bid On Lot 500
