Since its 1994 introduction, it almost single-handedly transformed Ferrari’s fortunes and road car image. With current offerings of the 348, Mondial and Testarossa, the line up was somewhat uninspiring, but the 355 swiftly turned that around, selling in unprecedented numbers, eventually totalling 10,000 in five years. But Ferrari knew they couldn’t rest on their laurels. With Sant’Agata Bolognese developing a baby Lamborghini, Ferrari’s pride dictated that they must be fully prepared to meet the challenge. Revealed in spring 1999 at the Geneva Motor Show in Berlinetta form, the 360 was much more than an evolution of the 355. Gone were the 355’s chiselled looks and replaced with bigger and bolder Pininfarina- styled, aerodynamic curves, a high-revving 3.6-litre V8 engine punching out an impressive 400bhp, and an all-aluminium chassis/ body combination. The Modena also saw a new word introduced into Ferrari reviews: ‘reliability’. The engineering had been more thoroughly thought through, and this was (and still is) reflected in lower servicing costs than for earlier mid-engined examples of the Prancing Horse. Higher levels of quality, too, meant that the 360 became one of the first truly modern Ferraris that could realistically be used every day. That didn’t detract from the excitement factor, however, with strong performance, a searing engine note and a very capable chassis. Offered here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive 360 Modena that is fitted with the F1 gearbox and classically presented in Rosso Corsa with Crema leather and the Challenge Stradale rear mesh grille. It has covered just 33,000 miles from new and benefits from a recent major service including belts, totalling around £6,000. Our vendors purchased this lovely 360 in 2022 following a circa ten-year stint at Haynes Motor Museum where it had remained on display and consequently required recommissioning and a major service to get it back up to full strength having been stationary for a while. The car has been cherished in their ownership, however, with a growing young family they’ve concluded that the Ferrari is simply not feasible to keep. The history file makes for good reading containing invoices for maintenance and servicing. MOTs etc. with the expected ten-year gap from its time at the museum and all the dealer-supplied owners and system manuals remain in their Ferrari leather wallet. These 360s are just fabulous to drive, and such an excellent successor to the wonderful 355. With modern V8 Ferraris now succumbing to turbochargers, borderline unusable levels of power and the latest technology, a screaming 400bhp naturally-aspirated piece of old school driving nirvana is surely a worthy addition to any driving enthusiast or collector’s garage. Very sensibly guided, this is a wonderful foray into Ferrari ownership. A lovely example of the exceptionally well-balanced 360. Fresh from a major service following a ten-year stint in the care of Haynes Motor Museum.
