Although the traditional chassis layout was retained - what else would one expect from Morgan? - the frame underwent extensive alteration, gaining in both wheelbase and track dimensions while being considerably strengthened. The centrally mounted Moss gearbox was carried over from the 4/4. A few years later - in 1953 - Morgan began the process of updating the car’s appearance, which culminated in the arrival of the quintessential Morgan look in 1954. The Plus 4 ran in production from 1950 to 1969 and was revived in 1985 until 2000 when it was delisted with the arrival of the Plus 8. Morgan slowly improved the Plus 4 over the years (with the emphasis on slowly), however, in 1992, the M16 engine was replaced by the more up-to-date, 140bhp, 2-litre Rover T16 with a five-speed gearbox. Crucially the car also went from the 4/4’s narrow chassis to the Plus 8’s wider type, giving an additional four inches of shoulder room. This delightful, 2-litre Series 3, two-seater comes fresh to market from long-term, 22-year ownership and has been enjoyed by our enthusiast vendor touring the UK and doing ‘Morgan’ things. The indicated mileage of 21,000 is supported by the owner’s file which contains details of the car’s history and servicing, primarily undertaken and looked after by marque specialists, Allon White Sportscars of Bedfordshire, including the last major service in 2021 costing nearly £1,000 with the car covering less than 500 miles since. The history file contains a plethora of documents dating back to new, including a copy of the Morgan handwritten build-specification sheet and, along with the car, there is a spare set of keys, a plug-in map light, all weather and soft interior covers and a spare wheel cover. This is a lovely, low mileage example of the Plus 4, famous the world over for its unique blend of craft, heritage and pure driving experience. 2.0-litre, Rover-engined, Series 3 two-seater with less than 22,000 miles from long-term enthusiast ownership.
