Over the years, 260 Proteus C-Types have been built, 18 of these using the dramatically-enhanced ‘clever’ performance and build quality of the latest design, with the Aluminium bodywork and chassis created in Coventry and the final assembly completed in Henley on Thames. Built to the highest standards, every Proteus C-Type is a combination of their extensive engineering knowledge and the very latest motor-racing technology. They created a maximum of 18 cars for the British and European market and invested over 1,000 hours and use over 600 individual parts in the construction of each car. Finished in 2016 and correctly IVA tested, No.7 is one of those Aluminium-bodied cars and is being offered by its first and only private owner. Classically finished in Old English White with Ox Blood leather, it’s powered by a Nigel Boycott-built, Jaguar 4.2-litre straight-six XK engine and has covered just over 5,000 miles. The car is built around the ‘new-generation’ Proteus Superform body enhanced by ‘Bag Tank’ support beams and a stylish front air scoop. the engine specification is impressive and includes triple JENVEY Throttle bodies, an OMEX fuel-injection system and a JANSPEED tubular exhaust manifold. Further highlights include fully independent NITRON suspension and all round disc brakes. Additional features include, Brooklands twin- screens, a black Mohair tonneau cover, grey powder-coated wire wheels and a classic polished Aluminium fuel cap. In more recent times, this car has just been through an extensive amount of work to update it to the same specification of No.18, which was the final Aluminium car and left the Proteus workshop in 2018 at a price of £240,000 including VAT. The work included a strip-down rebuild including new gaskets, heat shields, uprated radiator plus the latest cooling fan/tech and more. Its also worth noting that the car is fully ULEZ compliant. To replicate this car today would be a serious challenge and would also cost an awful lot more that this guide price. Having enjoyed a recent update and a significant investment, this is an exciting opportunity for its next lucky owner and one that we feel will reward a closer inspection. A superbly engineered re-creation of the iconic 1950s 24 Hours of Le Mans racer and one of only 18 examples built with the highly desirable aluminium body.
