THE RACE RETRO COLLECTORS’ & COMPETITION CAR SALE 23rd & 24th February 2024

Race Retro Competition Car Sale 2024 Cars 86 Registration: P47 PKJ Chassis No.: W0L000085T9009133 Estimate: £25,000 - £30,000 Specialist: Joseph Watts Telephone No: 07779 082707 Lot 914 1997 Vauxhall Calibra Turbo 4x4 Limited Edition Now that the 1990s are ‘back’ and modern-classic cars such as the Renault Clio Williams and Mitsubishi Evolutions are rightly revered, it’s about time that Vauxhall’s range-topper of that time received some closer attention. The pinnacle of the Calibra range, the Turbo 4x4 arrived in 1992, sporting some serious credentials: its low-lag C20LET 2-litre 16v Cosworth-fettled Vauxhall ‘red top’ engine had a KKK turbo attached and forged pistons inside, married to a 6-speed Getrag F28/6 gearbox (offering six gears long before it was the norm), giving 201bhp and 207lb/ft of torque, resulting in 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 152mph. Pretty impressive and from a car with real DTM credentials behind it. Back in the early 1990s, it was a competitive sports car market, with Vauxhall selling just 500 Calibra Turbos in 1992. We have confirmed that there are now only 65 turbocharged Calibras registered for UK-road use today with nine of those from limited-run special editions, two DTM Turbos and seven Limited Editions, the latter being one of the cars offered here. This is car #25 of 51 (as its plaque denotes) Calibra Turbo 4x4 Limited Edition examples produced in 1996 for the UK-market, all in Jet Black paintwork, to commemorate the end of production (so obviously a face-lift/fully galvanised bodyshell model). The appeal of the ‘LE’ is further bolstered by 16” BBS RX alloy wheels in a ‘Champagne’ hue, an Irmscher rear spoiler and suspension that sits 30mm lower than standard (courtesy of Bilstein shock absorbers, Irmscher springs and stiffer camber bushes). Other additions included a spoiler with a brake light, the Irmscher ‘flying chip’ logo on doors and tailgate, a numbered plaque on the centre console, black/grey steering wheel leather and a six-CD auto-changer in the boot. #25 has been owned by our vendor from new, a remarkable ownership; he acquired it on 9th January 1997 and there have been no previous keepers. It has covered a conservative 75,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained and looked after in his care. Indeed, in August 2018 (just before it was ‘put back away’ into our vendor’s collection), he spent £4,200 on having it fully serviced/ renewed, ensuring it was in fine fettle. There is a large accomoanying history file, full of invoices and old MOT certificates, to help support its condition and mileage. #25 remains in excellent condition today and is ready for its next custodian; there is much to recommend this 1990s rare and very capable sports car. 1997 Calibra Turbo 4x4 LE, one of only 51 examples and just one owner from new. Produced to celebrate the end of production, all were Jet Black with an Irmscher spoiler, BBS RX 16” alloys, plus Irmscher springs and dampers. More Details Lot 914 Bid On Lot 914
