Though inspired by the conversions carried a few years previously by independent tuner Ken Costello, the factory V8 cars were somewhat less tuned, producing 137bhp rather than 150bhp, however, that was sufficient for a decent 0-60mph time of around 8 seconds, and a top speed of 125mph. As the all-alloy Rover engine was lighter than the cast-iron BMC unit, no significant changes were required to the rest of the car. Production of the V8 was curtailed in 1976 (reputedly over BLMC’s concern it would affect sales of other products - in particular, the dearer, less powerful Triumph Stag). This professionally restored ‘Factory’ MG B GT V8 has been rebuilt with the twin objectives of originality and performance. Purchased by its present owner in 2019 with a current MOT Certificate, but in need of some ‘cosmetic’ attention, the decision was taken to strip and rebuild to meet his exacting standards. With that in mind, the body was bare-metalled and refinished with new panels replacing any that were not perfect and producing a high-level finish in Tahiti Blue. Realistically, the venerable MG B, even the standard V8, could do with a bit more power so the engine was presented to CAS Engineering for their kind attention which involved a ‘big-valve’ head, high-compression pistons and a high-lift cam resulting in an impressive 200bhp and a lot more torque. At the same time, new uprated suspension replaced the original, all ‘Polybushed’ and aligned utilising an MGOC ‘Panhard Rod’ kit. For added peace of mind, a Safety Devices bolt-in roll-cage was fitted. Now fully finished and barely run in, the result is a standard looking ‘factory’ GT V8 with impressive performance and handling matched to that addictive V8 rumble. Please note that the MG will be accompanied by a number of original parts including a steering wheel, rear seat and an original radio as well as a set of recently refurbished chrome Minilite alloy wheels wearing a recently fitted set of Toyo tyres. Carefully restored and subtly enhanced with power, handling and safety upgrades.
