Designed to rival the Lamborghini Miura and the newly developed Lamborghini Countach, it was finally released for sale in 1973 at the Paris Motor Show. The lightest, fastest, and rarest of Ferrari’s three Berlinetta Boxer models, just 387 were built, of which 88 were right-hand drive (58 of those for the UK market). The Pininfarina-designed body followed the P6 show car with pop-up headlights. Though it shared its numerical designation with the Daytona, the Boxer was radically different. It was a mid-engined car like the Dino, and the now flat-twelve engine was mounted longitudinally rather than transversely (as it was mounted in the Dino; the Daytona was a conventional front-engine, longitudinal design). The engine produced 375 bhp, slightly more than the Daytona. The engine shared its internal dimensions with the V12 from the Daytona but was spread out to 180° as on Ferrari’s 1970 Formula One car and was mounted above a five-speed manual transmission. One major difference in this engine was its use of timing belts rather than chains. Although referred to as a Boxer, the 180° V12 was not a true boxer engine, but rather a flat engine. The car presented here is one of the 88 RHD examples produced, manufactured in April 1974 as the 76th car built and originally delivered to Automobile Specialists PTE in Singapore. We are selling this rare Ferrari on behalf of a deceased estate, so the beneficiaries don’t know a great deal about the history of their late father’s car, especially so about its time in Singapore (at which point its registration number appears to have been EP5021M, from a Singapore Test Certificate, dated 1988). It is understood, that in 1988, it was registered in the UK and there are UK invoices/MOT certificates dating from 1992 - 2005, whilst with the late owner. The car was dry stored but hasn’t been used for several years, with the condition described as ‘generally good’, and as such the car could be enjoyed ‘as is’ or be treated as a rolling restoration but will now require some minor recommissioning. Although the car has been repainted at some point, it retains its original colours and original interior. Prior to offering the 365 GT4 for sale, the family spent over £10,000 to have the engine recommissioned by marque specialists ‘GTB Restorations’ of Suffolk. According to its accompanying Ferrari Data Sheet, the current engine and gearbox are ‘Not Original’ and may have been early warranty exchanges, but we understand that if the engine needed to be replaced on this model, it was considered normal practice to renew both engine and gearbox. Numbers are now F102A N.65 and F102AB N.41 respectively. The mileage indicated is 14,505 and the history file includes an invoice from Lancaster Ferrari dated 2000 on which the recorded mileage is 14,180. The son of the late owner says the car was used very little and may well have only covered just over 300 miles from 2000 to date.
